Blackpool’s Showtown Museum Gift Shop.

Working with Beaufort Bespoke, I was the Technical Designer for this project. Taking design consultants original ideas and turning them into working CAD drawings for the carpenters to work from and construct the cabinetry.

I predominantly worked on just a few fixtures on this project, including; a model carnival cannon, the Bring Me Sunshine Wall and the window Roll Up retail unit. Each being unique circus themed elements.

This unit was a modular retail stand with vibrant colours and 3D illuminated text on the top shelf.

Paired with the wall are two circus plinth style grab bins for merchandise as wells as two mobile crates on castors wheels again to house soft merchandise items like stuffed toys.

With a slat wall panelling within the unit, this allows staff to re-arrange merchandise each season to accommodate for new items or simply just to switch up the locations of items easily.

These retail units show out onto the the street via the large window within the giftshop, as a result these designs are loud and vibrant to grab the attention of passer-bys’s. With outward facing top graphics and illuminated frames and a unusual ring shelf design that isn’t the most versatile for merchandise but it conveys the brand perfectly to act as an advertisement to the public.

Featuring lockable under cabinets for additional storage and discrete wiring routing for the lighting elements as wells as modular shelving these cabinets were adaptable and useful for this space as storage facilities were limited.

Model Carnival Cannon

Blackpool Showtown Museum Gift Shop Carnival Cannon Model Drawing

A model carnival cannon that would serve as a retail stand to promote and stock plush toys for sale. The cannon itself had a steel brace ensuring total stability to avoid any health and safety concerns. This steel plate was also fixed into the floor to prevent the cannon from tipping and causing injuries to children.

Constructed out of many CNC’d layers of MDF rings that were glued together then sanded flush before being painted in a sticking red and yellow with a spiky pattern. This fixture looked right at home in this gift shop and operated as a functional model with a purpose.

Mobile Treats Cart

A mobile two sided cart that could hold both sweet treats and plush toys and games. This cart much like other elements had onboard LEDs so power had to be routed up into the ceiling to avoid tripping hazards. Fitted with large bicycle wheels either side and a retractable and lockable ‘stationary’ leg to ensure its stability.

A framed welcome display fixture with surrounding lightbox graphics was situated near the entrance to the gift shop to showcase promotional infographics to visitors while also establishing the brands name and direction in which to head to enter the museum itself.

Featuring displays on both sides, the yellow frame would slide in and out of the frame with a lockable latch to prevent tampering, while still allowing access for maintained and updating the screens AV elements.
